EducationPersonal Information

Educational History:

I graduated from Southwestern College in 1986 with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work.   After working for 13 years in various settings, I returned to school and graduated from the University of Kansas with a Master's in Social Work, specializing in Children and Families.

Degrees and Certifications:

I am licensed by the State of Kansas as a Master's Level Social Worker.   I have 28 years experience working with children and families, including in-home services to families in crisis, as well as case management for special needs children and adults.   I first worked as a school social worker in 1988, and began working for USD 470 in 2005.

Professional Development:

Over this past summer, I attended School Counselor Camp in Manhattan, KS, sponsored by KS State University.   I gained some fun ideas for classroom lessons and also some great counseling techniques from this training.   I also recently participated in training sponsored by the Kansas School Social Work Association in Wichita, focusing on crisis management and dealing with potentially dangerous situations within the school setting.

Current Position:

I started teaching classes for USD 470 in 2005.   I have been assigned to Frances Willard, Lincoln, Adams, and Roosevelt throughout my tenure here.   Currently, I work at Frances Willard and Roosevelt.   At Frances Willard, I teach all the grade levels.  At Roosevelt, I teach PreK - 2nd grade.  (Another counselor teaches the upper grades).   In my classes, we focus on pro-social skills such as making friends, building positive character traits, and preventing bullying, as well as academic skills such as listening, focusing, and following directions.

Personal Information:

When I am not at school, I like to read, cook, get outdoors for exercise, and spend time with my family and friends.   I collect antique cookbooks and frogs (not real ones, although I like them too), and I enjoy all kinds of music.
